Dear Parishioners,

To a deaf man, Jesus brings the ability to hear and a cure to the speech impediment that is an effect of his infirmity (Mk 7:31-37). Using the Hebrew words that mean “be opened”, he touches his spit covered finger to the man’s ears and tongue. This is a very personal and intimate gesture which brings about a truly miraculous event. Surrounding this man are the people who brought him to Jesus, anxious that the power of God would be manifested in some sort of manner. Beyond their astonishment at what they saw and heard, they praised God for the one who “does all things well” and who “makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

The Church, as the living Body of Christ, is truly in need of the healing touch of the Lord Jesus. Whether the Church Universal or the smallest unit, the family, the most intimate touch is needed. For the Church, we pray:

O God, you willed that our infirmities be borne by your Only Begotten Son to show the value of human suffering, listen in kindness to our prayers for our brothers and sisters who cry out for healing. Grant that all who are oppressed by pain, distress, anger, or other afflictions, may feel the healing effects of your love.

Congratulations to Tyler Bennett who will be received into the Full Communion of the Catholic Church this day at the 10:00am Mass. I would also like to congratulate 16 members of our parish family who will be honored at a diocesan celebration on Sunday, November 4 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary Queen of the Universe. Receiving Honors conferred by Pope Francis, Jim Laria will become a Knight of Saint Gregory and Pete Stauder and Mary Ellen Pollock will be awarded the Pro Ecclesia Et Pontifice. In addition, receiving the Mary Mother of God Medal from Bishop Noonan are Tim and Anita Behler, Robert Berardi, Mike and Sue Brown, Shelly Cintron, Pete Connelly, Diana Friends, Jim Krakowski, Rafaela Lopez, Ed Pauley, Victor Rivera and Marisela Silva.

I’d also like to invite you on behalf of the Young Adult Ministry to participate in a fundraising event this Friday, September 14 at 6:30pm. “Bingo with Father Bob” will assist them to raise $15,000 for the group to attend World Youth Day in Panama this coming summer.

May the week ahead be filled with every grace and blessing!

Fr. Bob
