The Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dearest Parishioners,

After dealing with a storm while he was on the boat with the disciples, as Jesus disembarks and is confronted with other “storms” (Mark 5:21-43), the pre-teen daughter of Jarius is critically ill and an older woman with a hemorrhage is chronically ill. The unruly crowd pushing upon Jesus creates another storm-like situation… the unruly disciples do not seem to make it any easier for Jesus as well! Jesus knew that the chronically ill woman touched him with faith and her healing was accomplished. Jesus speaks to the girl, who had been given up for dead, and tells her to “get up” and her healing is accomplished as well. The healing brought about by Jesus is accomplished by both reaching out to him and by listening to him. No situation or “storm” is beyond the healing power of God that is manifest in Christ Jesus His Son! When the storm is ended and when the healing has been accomplished, all are to give praise to God!

O God, who willed that our infirmities be borne by your Only Begotten Son to show the value of human suffering, listen in kindness to our prayers for those who are sick: grant that all those who endure pain, distress or other afflictions may they be chosen among those proclaimed blessed and are united to Christ in his suffering for the salvation of the world.

May the week ahead be filled with countless graces and blessings!
